The Town of Paradise Valley is currently seeking a Public Works Technician. Performs a variety of semi-skilled and manual labor, repairing and maintaining public streets and associated rights-of-way, landscaped medians and grounds, including operation of light to medium motorized equipment and power tools. The position works 4-10 hour shifts a week (Mon-Thur). Open until filled. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Knowledge of grounds keeping and desert landscaping methods and practices, including equipment, irrigation use, installation, and maintenance. • Skill in operating and maintaining a variety of light and medium maintenance and/or construction equipment. • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions for operating light to medium construction and maintenance equipment, pursuant to OSHA. • Knowledge of traffic control and work zone standards for day-to-day operation of traffic control within work zones. • Knowledge of street surfacing materials, including asphalt, crack seal, slurry seal, and concrete. • Knowledge of hydrovac techniques required to clean storm drains. • Ability to lift in excess of 100 pounds occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds constantly to move objects. • Must have the ability to stoop, crouch, reach, pull, push and lift. • Ability to work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions such as storms, pollution, dust, heat, and cold, and intense noise. • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff and the public. • Skill in understanding and following oral and written instructions. MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS A high school diploma or GED. Experience equivalent to 1-year full time street construction, maintenance work, or irrigation and landscape systems work, involving the operation of light to heavy motorized equipment. Must possess an AZ Commercial Driver’s License with required endorsements or have the ability to secure one within a 6-month period from hire date (training and endorsement paid for by the Town). As a condition of continued employment, individuals of this classification are required to maintain a valid AZ CDL with appropriate endorsements and are subject to random, unannounced drug and alcohol testing to comply with the Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 382.
