Description

Learn about daily herbal nourishment to support the immune system, and how to make delicious elderberry syrup. As the warm weather fades and the cooler months arrive, our bodies welcome extra support with the cold and flu season upon us. Come learn how to nourish yourself daily with herbs helpful for the immune system, and how to make your own delicious elderberry syrup. Join us as we have immune boosting tea on a short stroll through the Garden. We will then sample elderberry syrup, followed by a demonstration of the easy process to create your own. While our syrup is simmering, we will explore herbal teas, tinctures, and other infusions to help maintain whole body health through every season. Garden gate opens at 10:45. We'll meet on the patio for tea & introductions at 11, and start our class together at `11:15. Bring your favorite tea cup, notebook, harvest basket, empty medicine jar, & plant tale. Leave with curiosity, connections and a full heart. There is no rain date for this workshop. In the event of inclement weather, there will be no garden tour, and the class will take place in our indoor workshop space. Participants must wear a well-fitting mask covering mouth and nose when using indoor facilities, and outdoors when closer than 6' to any community member whose comfort requires it - regardless of vaccination status. Three half-price scholarship tickets are available for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color). Email [email protected] to claim one! **Note: Be sure to bring a clean, empty jar or containers to take your fire cider sample home in. Dress for the weather and insects. We are also accepting donations of Any size glass jar, clean or no, lid or not. Thank you & we look forward to seeing you in the garden! Located in Fulton, Maryland, The Green Farmacy Garden is a sanctuary for approximately 300 native and non-native species of plants that have been used traditionally and/or researched for medicinal applications. USDA botanist James A. Duke, PhD, and his wife, Peggy, collected medicinal plants for over sixty years.  In 1997, they transformed part of their pasture land into a teaching garden highlighting the plants that are featured in Jim’s book, The Green Pharmacy. The Green Farmacy Garden is also a part of the United Plant Savers network of sanctuaries around the country, which strive to educate the public and maintain native plant species that have become at risk or endangered. Since the garden is located on a large parcel of land, we are always in need of volunteers to help. We are also receptive to students who wish to work on independent projects with medicinal plants. Tours to the public are on scheduled days or by appointment.
