We STRONGLY encourage you to prepare ahead of time to take your placement test because your scores will determine what classes you will be able to take during your first semester, and beyond. Please take the placement test seriously. Being properly prepared can save you time and money! A student should plan on being on campus for at least two hours. Reading and English Both are untimed, computer-based tests, consisting of multiple choice and essay formats. You can find sample questions for the Next-Generation reading test along with sample essays for the English test, WritePlacer at this link: https://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/student/practice Math The math test is untimed, computer-based, and multiple choice. You can find practice exams for College Readiness or College Algebra at this link: http://www.kyote.org/mc/placementPractice.aspx You may use any basic four-function, scientific, or graphing calculator with the exception of calculators with algebra system functionality installed. If you are unsure if your calculator is allowed, bring it with you on testing day; assessment staff will gladly verify if your calculator is allowed. The assessment center does have a selection of basic four-function calculators available that you may borrow in the event you forget yours. What to bring on exam day? A valdi photo ID is required to test (government or student) Your student ID number Calculator (or you may borrow one of ours) What to leave at home on exam day? Except for electronic medical devices, all electronic devices are prohibited from the testing center. Prohibited items include: Any device capable of recording audio, photographic, or video content, or capable of viewing or playing back such content Unauthorized testing aids Test taker provided keyboard, computer, or laptop, unless there is a documented disabling condition that requires the use of a very specific device Cellular phones, tablets, pagers, smartphones, walkie-talkies, PDAs, or wireless communication devices Dictionaries (standard and/or bilingual), books, pamphlets, or other reference materials Digital cameras Digital watches, smartwatches, or wristwatch cameras Flash/thumb drives or any other portable electronic device Food, beverages, or tobacco products Listening devices such as radios, media players (with or without headphones), or recorders Nonmedical electronic devices Paper of any kind (scratch paper must be provided and destroyed by the test center administrator; test takers cannot use or discard their own scratch paper) Slide rules, protractors, compasses, or rulers Weapons, firearms, or other items prohibited by law or test center/campus safety and security policies The Southwest campus assessment center is located in the Student Center (Building A) Room 100A. Please check in at the Advising Center. Vistor parking is available in the vistor lot. Please put a note on your dashboard that you are here for placement testing.
