MILTON, MA — Milton was named the 8th best small city in America according to a new ranking from WalletHub Tuesday. The personal finance website examined 43 indicators of livability in more than 1,300 cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000. These ranged from housing costs and school system quality to restaurants per capita. Coming in at number 24 across the country for education and health, Milton holds a strong place in the Commonwealth according to metrics based on WalletHub's "States with the Best & Worst School Systems" ranking. This ranking was broken down with numbers from school-system quality to obesity ratings in adults.Milton also came in as a top contender for safety in the study, securing the top 12th spot in the country. Milton was among eight Massachusetts communities ranked in the top 20. Reading beat Milton by coming in 5th place, but Milton beat Melrose who came in 9th, Arlington 14th, and Newton and Needham tying for 16th place. Sammamish, WA, Carmel, IN, and Brentwood, TN were the top three in the nation.
