Spicer Wants Framingham To Be 'World-Class' City: Letter

The following is a letter to the editor and does not necessarily reflect the views of Framingham Patch As a former senior associate commissioner at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in 2002, I know Framingham will benefit from re-electing Yvonne Spicer as Mayor for another four years. At that time, Yvonne helped the state to develop the best Science and Technology/Engineering Standards in the country, enabling MA students to tie for first place in worldwide competitive tests in grade 8 Science and to place near the top in tests of elementary and middle school mathematics, in 2007 and 2011. Her competence and energy in education have not only continued to influence K-12 through a school budget in Framingham she helped to increase but also expanded to other important areas of city government — to new bike trails and parks, to economic development with good, new jobs, and revitalized plazas like Nobscot and Mt. Wayte, and to a start in cleaning up the General Chemical site. She has done all this work as Mayor. She has worked tirelessly to bring publicity, new businesses like life science companies, and state funding to Framingham. She wants Framingham to become a world-class city. A vote for Yvonne Spicer for mayor is a vote for Framingham's future as an inclusive, resilient community for all its residents. —Sandra Stotsky, Brookline
