STAMFORD, CT — State Rep. Corey Paris (D-144) has been named by the Connecticut Conference of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) as one of the 100 most influential Black leaders in Connecticut, according to a news release. Paris will be honored with other awardees during a ceremony on Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket. "I am honored to be recognized as one of the 100 Most Influential Blacks in Connecticut by CT NAACP," said Paris in a news release. "The NAACP is apowerful organization that continues the fight for civil rights andsocial justice in all forms, for all residents. I am humbled toreceive this award and will continue to serve as a strong voice foreducational, social, and economic equity for every resident in the145th House District and Connecticut." Paris was elected to the Connecticut General Assembly during an April 2021 special election. "Since being sworn in to the state House of Representatives in May 2021, he has advocated for pay equity, accessible child care and early childhood education, affordable healthcare, and a fiscally responsible state budget that works to meet the state's long-term economic needs without leaving families behind," a news release from the CT General Assembly said. Paris serves on the legislature's Education Committee; Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committees; and Planning and Development Committee. The 100 Most Influential Blacks in Connecticut Award Ceremony highlights state and community leaders and industry innovators for their work in their community. This year's ceremony will feature keynote speaker Robert Rooks, former NAACP Criminal Justice Director and current CEO of REFORM Alliance. He co-founded and served as Vice President of Alliance for Safety and Justice and founded the Campaign Academy for Safety and Justice. Rooks is renowned for his advocacy for criminal justice reform.
