NORWICH, CT — A Norwich man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for attempting to engage in sex with a minor, according to a statement from Leonard C Boyle, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. William Meier, 39, will also serve five years of supervised release.
According to prosecutors, Meier went into a chatroom in May 2020 dedicated to teens on the Kik social messaging application and began chatting with an FBI online covert employee posing as a 14-year-old girl living in Connecticut.
Meier raised the prospect of meeting the "girl" to have sex with her and impregnate her. In August 2020, Meier sent the FBI covert employee a sexually explicit photo of himself, according to prosecutors.
Meier was arrested the following day after he traveled from his home to a location in New London where he expected to meet the "girl" and engage in sexual activity with her.
Meier has been detained since his Aug. 6, 2020. He pleaded guilty to using an interstate facility to attempt to persuade a minor to engage in sexual activity in July.
