Description
MANCHESTER, CT — Remember when a McDonald's had those big Golden Arches on each side of a red-and-white brick building with the large glass front? It was the 1960s and there were no inside tables and no fancy cafe items. It was all about burgers and fries and thick shakes.
Folks drove up in their bog old cars, ordered at the window and then ate in their vehicles.
The Walsh family remembers it all well.
Last week, the Walshes celebrated the 60th anniversary of their family owned and operated McDonald's business in Manchester.
The Walshes opened their first restaurant on West Center Street in Manchester in 1961. Today, the family owns seven restaurants in Connecticut – three in Manchester, two in Vernon and restaurants in East Hartford and Ellington.
