Here are the top stories in Burlington today: It will be several years before the Burlington Police Department can reach its goal of having 87 officers on the force, the acting police chief said Tuesday. Acting Chief Jon Murad made the comments by email after the Burlington City Council voted to increase the size of the department to 79 officers after putting a cap on the number of officers last year. Mayor Miro Weinberger says with eight additional officers at the Burlington Airport, the cap is effectively raised to 87. (Ruthland Herald) Renters in Burlington will soon benefit from a new law requiring landlords to weatherize their properties. However, a shortage of workers means many of the upgrades won't be completed until next year. Vermont Gas officials are helping Burlington identify the city's draftiest homes.
