Here are the top stories in Des Moines today: A former teacher in Pleasant Hill, Abraham Christopher Smith, 39, was sentenced Tuesday to 24 years in prison for enticement of a minor. He pleaded guilty to the charge in June. Prosecutors said in October 2020, Smith persuaded a minor student at Southeast Polk High school to engage in sex acts with him. He also used his cellphone to record sexual activity. (Mason City Globe Gazette)An unidentified man has died after crashing his motorcycle in Des Moines on Tuesday night. Police and the fire department were called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash in the 6500 block of Highway 28 at 9:35 p.m. Tuesday. They found a wrecked motorcycle and the driver, who was critically injured. The 37-year-old man was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
