Unknown duration of clear. #Caltrans8 pic.twitter.com/tNybyrNYic— Caltrans District 8 (@Caltrans8) October 20, 2021 The incident was reported around 1:30 p.m. on the eastbound side of the highway, near mile marker 89, west of Cahuilla Way, in a stretch of roadway that has tight, hairpin turns, according to the California Highway Patrol. Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department reported one vehicle went off the road, approximately 400 feet over the side. "Firefighters made their way down to the vehicle and located one victim trapped inside," the agency said via social media. The victim was hoisted from the wreckage and flown by helicopter to a nearby ambulance, then rushed to an area hospital with serious injuries, according to the agency. The CHP is the investigating agency.
