President Biden Headed To PA Wednesday

PENNSYLVANIA — President Joe Biden is returning to his home town of Scranton on Wednesday afternoon as he looks to promote and rally support for his multi-trillion dollar infrastructure and climate change bill. The president is scheduled to arrive at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport at around 4:15 p.m. before making his way to the Electric City Trolley Museum in Scranton at 5:15 p.m., according to the White House Press Office. While at the museum, he's slated to deliver remarks on the sweeping bill, which would also expand social welfare programs and assist in recovery from the pandemic. Biden's camp has suggested the deal could be finalized as soon as this week. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement Tuesday that the president had several productive meetings with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. "The discussions focused around a shared commitment to the care economy, ensuring working families have more breathing room, addressing the climate crisis, and investing in industries of the future so that we can compete globally," Psaki said. "There was broad agreement that there is urgency in moving forward over the next several days and that the window for finalizing a package is closing." President Biden's visit comes just one week after First Lady Jill Biden visited nearby Allentown as part of a tour addressing concerns of the Latino community. Biden is scheduled to leave Pennsylvania Wednesday by shortly after 7 p.m. Pennsylvania State Police announced several road closures ahead of the visit. Impacted areas include streets in downtown Scranton and portions of I-81, north and south, between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
