GLENVIEW, IL — Mary Munday and Sheri Latash, longtime Glenview residents, care about the environment, not just for the current inhabitants of our planet, but for future generations. In that vein, the two announced the launch of Greener Glenview at Tuesday's Glenview Village Board meeting. "When the Village Board adopted the Greenest Region Compact in November of 2020, it joined the regional effort by municipalities to address the many environmental sustainability challenges we face," Latash, who co-founded Greener Glenview with Munday, said in addressing the Village Board. "Through education, collaboration and advocacy, we look forward to publicizing the good work that is already being done as well as promoting efforts for meaningful implementation of the Greenest Region Compact." Greener Glenview is an affiliate of Go Green Illinois, an umbrella organization of community environmental groups working to increase local and regional sustainability. A Greener Glenview kickoff event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 27, at the Glenview Public Library. The GRC, which is administered by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, promotes sustainability incommunities across the region through an "emphasis on environmentally friendly practices thatcan be established by municipal leaders and staff," according to the meeting notes of a Glenview Village Board meeting on Nov. 17, 2020. At that meeting, Glenview trustees voted in favor of adopting the compact, becoming the 132nd community member of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus to endorse the GRC. The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus is a membership organization of the Chicago region's 275 cities, towns, and villages. The current version of the GRC (2016) has 10 categories for action and 49 high-level goals that were synthesized from more than 1,150 goals and objectives, according to Greener Glenview's website.
