TUCSON, AZ — City of Tucson employees who are not vaccinated by Dec. 1 could be on the chopping block. The City Council voted 4-3 Tuesday to approve the firing of employees who do not provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or receive an exemption by the deadline. Voting in favor were Mayor Regina Romero and council members Steve Kozachik, Lane Santa Cruz and Karin Ulrich. Voting against were council members Paul Cunningham, Nikki Lee and Richard Fimbres. The City Council voted in August to approve a vaccine mandate for all Tucson employees. At that time employees faced a 5-day suspension if they didn't receive their first shot by Aug. 24.
