SAG HARBOR, NY — A man was found in Sag Harbor and arrested after his wife was found dead in Colorado, police said. According to New York State Police, on Oct. 4, the Sag Harbor Police Department received a report from the North Plainfield, NJ Police Department about a woman, Masany Cruz, 29, of Colorado Springs, CO, who had been reported missing and might be at the Sag Harbor Inn. When Sag Harbor Police arrived at the inn, they found her husband, William Cruz, 31, also of Colorado Springs, alone, police said. Cruz was taken into custody without incident and was taken to the hospital for treatment, police said. At the same time, police in Colorado Springs responded to the last known address of Masany and William Cruz, where Masany Cruz was found dead, police said. A multi-state investigation began, with a joint effort between New York State Police and Sag Harbor Police, in coordination with North Plainfield PD, and Colorado Springs PD; search warrants were executed in Colorado and Sag Harbor, police said. Investigators in several jurisdictions continued to pursue numerous leads and collected evidence to obtain an arrest warrant in Colorado, police said. The investigation revealed that Masany Cruz had not been heard from since September 14, and William Cruz had left Colorado on or about September 15 and arrived on Long Island on September 18, police said. On October 13, William Cruz was arrested by New York State Police investigators and charged with being a fugitive from justice, based on an arrest warrant out of District County Court in El Paso County, CO, police said. Cruz was processed at the New York State Police barracks in Riverside and held at Southampton Town Police headquarters for arraignment on October 14 at Suffolk County First District Court, police said.
