The County Commission unanimously approved three new subdivision projects in District 1 that will be zoned for the rapidly growing Northside High School. Click each of the following names of the subdivisions to see their locations: The Gates of Northside, Northside Estates & Eden Grove. The measures were offered up for first readings earlier this month.District 1 Commissioner Stan Acker saw his request granted for Community Development funding to provide extrication equipment for the Coker Fire Department, which carried a price tag of $23,230, as $11,615 will be split between Commission Districts 1 and 4. A demonstration of the new battery-powered cutter and spreader were given Wednesday morning, as officials underscored the benefits of not having to rely on older equipment that runs off of gasoline. Coker Mayor Stephen Hysaw was in attendance and thanked the Commission for its financial support. Acker also saw an annual proposal approved for $5,000 in Community Development funding to be awarded to Northside High School's Golf Team. The funds will be used for uniforms, equipment and travel. District 4 Commissioner Reginald Murray saw a request approved for Tuscaloosa County Public Works to stripe roads on the Sipsey Valley Middle School and high school campuses. County Engineer Scott Anders said district development funds in the amount of $13,000 will be used to cover the project. The County Commission also announced its fall cleanup day is set for Saturday, Oct. 30 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. This will be a chance for residents to clean out garages and attics, with large collection containers set out in each Commission district by Waste Management.
