MARION, MA — The Marion community is coming together to support Cilantro Thai Cuisine after a fire destroyed the restaurant over the weekend. On Sunday, Oct. 17 at 11:19 p.m. Marion firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on Front Street. Once emergency crews got to the scene, they worked to take down a "well-involved" fire on the second floor. Multiple mutual aid companies were called in from nearby towns to help extinguish the blaze. Firefighters were eventually able to keep the fire contained to the second floor, but due to the extensive water used to put out the flames, all of the kitchen equipment in the restaurant was destroyed. The owner of Cilantro Thai Cuisine took to Facebook, explaining the situation, telling customers they could not rebuild and would have to move to a new location and "start from zero." This prompted Marion resident Derek Tiago to launch a GoFundMe to help the owners, saying "This fire was outside their control, but it's affecting them tremendously. If you have the ability to help, any monetary value can help propel them forward to a re-started venture." In just a few hours the community has surpassed the initial $5,000 set goal.
