Join AIA Southwest members on a building tour of the Waunakee Public Libary
This tour is intended for AIA members and Architecture Industry Professionals.
Join fellow AIA Wisconsin members to see the 40,000-square-foot library constructed on an abandoned brownfield site in Waunakee, completed in 2019. The tour will cover design aspects specific to this site, Library building typology, and incorporating community into the architecture.
Learning Objectives:
Articulate the importance of integrated building and site design to embed the new building into the existing community.Identify key features of the future library, including new shelving strategies, key spaces for all age groups, and community amenities beyond book checkout.Learn ways to celebrate the local community in the architecture, including mindful material selection, incorporating elements of local history, and featuring local craftspeople and artists.Explore the sustainability story of the library, including brownfield remediation, wetland preservation, a green roof and solar array.Presenters: Sophie Anstreicher and Mark Kruser, AIA, OPN Architects
