Come learn basic mosaic techniques using reclaimed materials. THIS IS A 2 DAY CLASS Thursday, Dec. 2 fom 6:00-8:30pm AND Thursday, Dec. 9 from 6:00-8:30pm. Have fun and be creative in the ERW Community Mosaic Class. We will be making two trivets from our own supply of tiles. Create your own design, make it bold and bright; or monotone and cool. It’s up to you!! If you have old china, or sentimental pieces (plates work best), and want to use your own pieces to create a trivet, we can work with that! We will review various techniques to cut, nip, break and smash pieces to use in your mosaic. On Thursday, December 2nd, we will create two trivets from ERW stock. You will learn how to prepare the surface, tips for designing your pieces, best ways to cut pieces and gluing options. By the end of the class, you will have two mosaics complete and ready for grouting. The following Thursday, December 9th, we will grout the pieces and you can take them home that day and they will be ready for use! WHAT DO YOU NEED? Base for the trivetsReclaimed tiles from ERW stock and a selection of broken plates from Secret Treasures Antiques & Collectibles in EvanstonGlue & GroutMarkers and rulersGlovesTile nippers and cuttersCOVID-19 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: Per current CDC guidance and State of Illinois mandates, we require that all students and instructors wear masks.Please note: safety glasses are required in most of our classes and wearing a mask with a wire nosepiece will help reduce fogging.Class sizes are limitedHand washing station and hand sanitizer available within the shopLOGISTICS Additional parking available along Hartrey St. or in the lot at the southwest corner of Dempster and Hartrey.All materials are included in the workshop fee.We will be in a warehouse so please dress safely (closed toed shoes)!
