Seeing Ancient Mexico: A new look at works from the Tucson Museum of Art collection.
Kristopher Driggers is the Assistant Curator, Schmidt Curator of Latin American Art at the Tucson Museum of Art. He received a B.A. in History of Art from Yale in 2011 and a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Chicago in 2020. Kristopher’s primary research area is in the art of the Ancient Americas; his research and publications include works on the Nahua (Aztec) tradition before and after the Conquest of Mexico. As a biracial Mexican-American curator from the Texas borderlands, Kristopher’s curatorial projects also look closely at contemporary issues surrounding identity, migration, and language. Since being hired at the Tucson Museum of Art in 2019, Kristopher has curated an exhibition of Oaxacan Folk Art and is working toward a new installation of the museum’s Latin American Collection (2020) and of the Tucson artist Alejandro Macias (2021).
The Pima County Historic Courthouse is among Tucson’s most beloved landmarks. Designed by architect Roy Place, this iconic Spanish Colonial Revival-styled structure was built in 1929 and remained in service for an 86-year span during which time it served as the backdrop for numerous wedding proceedings and became home to several County departments.
