WAYLAND, MA — Wayland will mark Native American Heritage Month in November with an event featuring a speaker from the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, the latest in a series of town-sponsored "community conversations" events.
Native American Heritage Month takes place every November in the U.S., and pays "tribute to the rich ancestry and traditions of Native Americans," according to the Library of Congress.
Wayland will host speaker Gina Fox from the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe for a talk the first weekend in November. The talk is sponsored by the Our Wayland working group, which has hosted other talks recently to mark Hispanic Heritage Month in September, Black History Month and World War II internment camps.
The Mashpee Wampanoag people have lived in what is now Massachusetts and Rhode Island for about 12,000 years, according to the tribe. The Nov. 7 event will be held online via Zoom. Register to attend here.
