The Wakefield Sons & Daughters of Italy held their October meeting at Laurie's 9:09 and over Zoom. At the September meeting, plans were made to provide a pasta dinner for the Wakefield Boys and Girls Club. With COVID protocols in place, members were disappointed that they were not able to serve the dinner. But they did enjoy cooking 23 pounds of pasta, customizing gallons of sauce, and baking hundreds of cookies and brownies. We knew it was a success when we heard that a B&G Club member asked, "Can these people do it every week?" Like last year, the Lodge decided to donate to the Council of Clubs. Along with donations from other community organizations, money raised will be used to make up baskets for those in need around the holidays. We don't always hear from our scholarship recipients, but this month we received exciting news. Courtney Hart, who received a OSDIA scholarship in 2015, completed her Physician Assistant Degree at Quinnipiac University. A holiday cookie swap was considered, but then it turned in to a bread/muffin exchange at Thanksgiving instead – something different. Another holiday-related topic was the availability of the annual calendar raffle. For just $10 each, the January calendars make a great gift and come with the opportunity to win 31 times. Contact any member if interested in purchasing a calendar. The meeting included a special (remote) guest from Pennsylvania. Bianca Ottone, founder of My Italian Family gave a presentation on obtaining a dual Italian citizenship. It isn't a simple process, but it can offer many benefits. If interested, visit their website. It was decided that the group will meet in November and December. There will not be a meeting in January nor February. They will reconvene in March 2022. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 9, both in person and over Zoom. Please contact President Paula for information about attending or about joining the Lodge.
