Description
MELROSE, MA — The police department is once again participating in National Drug Take Back Day this weekend.
Local police departments work with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration twice a year for Take Back Day. This one is scheduled for Sat., Oct. 23, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Anyone in Melrose can drop off expired, unwanted or unused prescription drugs at the police station on West Foster Street. The event is free and there will be no questions asked.
Residents can drop off pills or patches, but no liquids or needles.
The event is to combat community substance abuse. There is also a take-back box in the police station lobby on a permanent basis.
"We want to offer a safe and convenient place for residents to properly dispose of unwanted or unused prescription medications," said Chief Mike Lyle. "By attending this event, residents can connect with resources and information while also safely disposing of these medications."
