Afro-descendants and the Law in Argentina
This is a hybrid event. Fully vaccinated CUNY students, faculty, and staff registered in the Cleared4 system can attend the in-person event on campus. All other guests are welcome to join via Zoom.
Members of the Organización Afrodescendiente para la Asistencia Jurídica y Formación
(OAFRO), Argentina's first Black legal aid organization, will discuss the challenges Afro-descendants in the nation face in the justice system and beyond. Argentina has one of the least visible black populations of Latin America yet recent years have seen a great increase in violent acts and other forms of discrimination against this population. There is an extremely small number of black legal experts in the nation and these individuals will be establishing the precedents for legislation related to African Diasporic populations.
