Tennessee Education Funding Forum
Governor Bill Lee and Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Penny Schwinn have launched a broad review of the state's school funding model which could change the way state tax dollars are used to fund our local public schools.
As you may know, local public schools are currently funded through the state’s Basic Education Program (BEP) - a nearly thirty-year-old funding formula that generates a total amount of dollars needed per school system and determines how much of the funding is the responsibility of the state and how much should come from local funding bodies.
As part of this statewide review, the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in partnership with the Urban League of Chattanooga and the Tennessee Rural Education Association, is convening three separate listening sessions for education, business, and community leaders throughout Southeast Tennessee to discuss, learn and document your views about this vitally important topic.
We’ll begin each session with a quick overview presentation. Coffee and snacks will be provided.
