Description
I think we can agree Haiti is a mess. Recently ravaged by both a hurricane and earthquake, then followed by the assassination of their president, it now is evident the country has spiraled down to where control rests in the hands of hooligans and gangs. One, or more of those gangs, has kidnapped sixteen Americans and one Canadian demanding a million dollars ransom for each.
It is no wonder thousands of Haitians have crossed into Mexico and are storming our border to the south. Months ago, "our" vice president was tasked with creating new policy to deal with this overwhelming situation. Her response has been to take one trip to a "safe" part of Texas and one trip to Mexico, which, by most accounts was nothing more than a political photo op, and a botched one at that. If anything positive has come from either of those trips, we are yet to see any results.
I would like to see something more substantial from our administration. Perhaps directing our Secretary of State (whoever that is) to address the United Nations requesting an international military presence to stabilize the country and round up and jail the gangs followed by international aid from around the world to help the people recover from the natural disasters and rebuild the country. After all, isn't this what our Secretary of State is supposed to do? Especially if we present ourselves as a world leader?
I would also like to see our president execute a "Seal Team Six" operation to actually get the job done of rescuing our American citizens. But I am not holding my breath.
