NORWALK, CT — Norwalk Public Schools will continue to see increased police presence at school buildings this week following a report Sunday of a "possible threatening message" found at Brien McMahon High School. In an update posted to the district's Facebook page, officials said all schools operated as usual Monday morning and classes followed a regular schedule that day, however the investigation into the source of the possible threatening message is still underway. District officials said they are working with Norwalk police to identify, per their safety protocols, any potential safety threats and asses whether any threat is credible, work for which was still underway as of Monday afternoon. As a result, students may notice an increased police presence at their school. The district also noted safety and security were, as always, their primary concern and emphasized the importance of a "see something, say something" reaction. Secondary students and parents are encouraged to use the "anonymous alerts" app for this purpose, and students are urged to contact a school administrator or teacher if they are worried about a fellow student or something they have seen. Parents are also urged to remind children that social media is not the appropriate place for sharing concerns about safety, according to the district. "We know that news like this can be distressing for students, particularly after the past year of [coronavirus]-related issues," the post reads. "If your child or family need support, please do not hesitate to contact your principal." In a follow up post Monday night, district officials noted all Norwalk Public Schools ended the day with a normal dismissal and regular after school programs in session. Patch has reached out to the Norwalk Police Department for further information.
