NEWTOWN, CT — Election Day is approaching fast, and a number of key positions in Newtown will be on the ballot. To help readers make an informed decision on Nov. 2, Patch has reached out to local candidates to share their views on various topics of importance in town. Occupation: Police Administrator Family: Donna - wife 3 adult children Experience: Police Commissioner Family in government: N/A The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it: With all the police departments in Connecticut and one of the greatest challenges is fully implementing all the required measures in regards to the new police accountability bill. Many of the new mandates are unfunded. Managing these costs requires diligent fiscal planning. Critical differences between me and my opponents: Experience. As a full time law enforcement professional for the past 27 years I bring an unmatched level of experience to this board. Accomplishments: I started in full time law enforcement back in 1994 and I have worked my way up to Police Captain and a position that I have held since 2016. I help manage and monitor 106 employees using a $13 million budget. Other issues: Police accountability has always been practiced regularly in Newtown. Striving to maintain transparency is critically important in order to maintain the public's trust. What else would you like voters to know about you? Completed FBI Executive Leadership Institute. Graduate of the Police Leadership Institute at Sacred Heart University. Completed Penn State University Police Budgeting Seminar. Completed FEMA critical incident training along with Police Ethics and Stress management training. Police short and long term strategic planning experience.
