EAST HAVEN, CT — Saying East Haven Mayor Joseph A. Carfora is "committed to producing union jobs, and construction career paths," the New Haven Building and Construction Trades union has endorsed Carfora for a second term. Also having voted to back Carfora in his reelection bid is the Western Connecticut Area Labor Federation.
In a news release announcing the endorsements, New Haven Building Trades Council president Christopher Cozzi was quoted as saying that given Carfora is committed to "project labor agreements, we hope to be able to recruit more East Haven residents into our apprenticeship programs, and to provide them a career path into the construction industry."
The Building Trades Council represents approximately 30,000 construction workers statewide. The Western Connecticut Area Labor Federation, chartered by the National AFL-CIO, is a coalition of local unions from various public and private sectors across western Connecticut and encompasses 72 municipalities, representing an estimated 100,000 workers, approximately 2,500 of whom reside in East Haven, according to the endorsement news release.
"I'm honored to have the backing of these groups," Carfora was quoted as saying. "Their members are on the front lines fighting for good jobs, fair wages and workplace protections – all things I fully believe in. I also want to thank our 1st district town council person, Kimberly Glassman, who is running with me on the #TeamCarfora ticket for reelection. Kim, who is also endorsed by the Building Trades and WCALF, is a proud union member. Together, we will continue advocating for our town's working families."
The WCALF also endorsed Lisa Balter, running for Town Clerk and Josh Balter, running for Town Council, 3rd District Councilman, the release reads.
