Here are the top stories in Burlington today: The city of Burlington is giving residents of a homeless encampment another week to stay there before it will close, said Mayor Miro Weinberger. The extra time will give social workers more time to help the residents of the Sears Lane encampment find alternative locations to live, the mayor said in a statement issued late Monday afternoon. The state Department for Children and Families agreed to provide emergency funding to provide direct assistance to Sears Lane residents in their transition to other housing and will work with other organizations to find alternative housing, including hotel assistance. The city will also provide storage containers where residents will be able to store temporarily their belongings. (Midland Daily News)A group of students at the University of Vermont is hoping their recent work to investigate unsafe driving around campus will bring about changes to protect pedestrians. The five students went to the busiest intersections on campus, taking photos of drivers running red lights and failing to stop for pedestrians. In total, they counted 133 dangerous interactions at the University Heights and Main Street intersection in the span of an hour. (Local 22/44 News)Think you've spotted a bobcat in Burlington?
