WINCHESTER, CA — A 43-year-old Hemet woman was killed in a crash in Winchester, authorities said Sunday. She was identified by the Riverside County coroner's office as Maria Hernandez. The crash occurred at about 9:40 p.m. Friday on Domenigoni Parkway west of State Route 79, according to the coroner's office. Hernandez was driving a blue 2007 Toyota Yaris eastbound on Domenigoni Parkway "at a high rate of speed in the No. 1 lane according to a witness," California Highway Patrol Sgt. K. Poulter said. "The Toyota approached a slower moving vehicle directly ahead of her," the sergeant said. "The Toyota veered to the left, entered the center median, passing the slower moving vehicle when it went out of control." Hernandez's car then entered the westbound lanes while still moving eastbound and crashed head-on into a white Dodge pickup truck before overturning onto its side, Poulter said. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner's office said. The 36-year-old man and 35-year-old woman inside the pickup truck suffered minor injuries, Poulter said. Both were from Winchester. —City News Service
