LOS ANGELES, CA — The cause of a crash that snarled the Golden State (5) Freeway near Dodger Stadium during rush hour Monday remains under investigation. A semi-truck slammed into a freeway wall and flooded the southbound lanes with about 3,000 gallons of antifreeze, prompting the closure of a transition road, authorities said Tuesday. The crash occurred about 4:35 p.m. Monday on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway near the southbound Arroyo Seco (110) Parkway, the California Highway Patrol reported. Investigators are trying to determine what made trucker Juan Aguilar, 64, veer his 009 Freightliner semi-truck to the right and into the freeway's concrete wall, causing his tanker to overturn onto the freeway, said CHP Officer Austin Heredia. The overturned truck poured 3,000 gallons of antifreeze and 2,700 gallons of used oil into the road. The spill closed the transition road from the 5 Freeway to Arroyo Seco Parkway as Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters worked to contain and clean the spill, Heredia said. The transition road was reopened about 7 a.m. Tuesday, the CHP reported. In addition to LAPD's Hazmat Unit, the California Department of Transportation and the cleanup crew Ocean Blue assisted at the scene.
