Bucks Co. Expands Drug Treatment Program For Criminals

DOYLESTOWN, PA — The Bucks County District Court Diversion Program (DCDP) began its expansion of the pilot Probation Program, which will aid those in need of drug treatment who are currently unable to get help due to prior records and drugs they have used. The Probation Program will be expanded from its current five district courts to all 18 Bucks County district courts. This is in an effort to help those arrested for drug and alcohol-related crimes and as part of a rehabilitation effort by the county. Those in the expanded program will be placed on six months of probation. Their probation will involve a drug and alcohol assessment within three days of their entry and to find the proper treatments for their individual situations. "The Bucks County District Attorney's Office remains committed to the mission of seeking individualized justice for each citizen that comes into contact with the criminal justice system," Weintraub said in an open letter to President Judge Wallace H. Bateman Jr. The DCDP Program, founded in 2018, was made to help those specifically with drug-use-related arrests, i.e. possession of controlled substances, marijuana, and paraphernalia.
