HILLSBORO, OR — For around 4 years, Hillsboro has been trying to figure out what to do with Block 67, a mixed-use project that the city hopes will be "a critical link between Downtown Main Street, the Health and Education District, and Baseline/Oak Commercial Corridor." Since 2017, the city has had town hall meetings, issued requests for companies that might want to work on the project. Last month, the city held its latest open house to solicit public opinion. The city says that 1,165 people responded, nearly 90 percent of whom live in Hillsboro. They represented a mix of people who work in the city (47 percent ), own a Hillsboro business (11 percent), and attend school there (5 percent). People listed a neighborhood market or grocer as a top priority followed by restaurants, cafes, and drinking establishments, green spaces, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, open spaces, retail stores, and parking. The survey showed that more than anything, people want the objective for the project to be maximizing the property's value to the community followed by sustainable design, and community access and open space, and the creation of jobs downtown. They said that affordability, homelessness, and parking are their biggest concerns.
