Eagan-Based Company Is Hosting 'Futuristic Design Competition'

EAGAN, MN — Eagan-based Young Builders and Designers is continuing to bring design education to Twin Cities youth by partnering with schools and the community. The newest program gives kids the opportunity to have a Lego® model in the window at the Lego® store at the Mall of America. Brian Kelley, director of Young Builders and Designers, said that the program has partnered with Eagan Community Foundation. The Eagan Community Foundation sponsored 20 low-income kids in fourth grade at Rahn Elementary School to participate in the Young Builders Design and Build Program, Kelley said. The school's principal sponsored an additional class at Rahn Elementary, allowing two total classes to participate, Kelley said. The program through the school began in October and will go through November. Young Builders and Designers is additionally hosting workshops for $10/session at Eagan Community Center, Kelley told Patch. The workshops will run through November and upcoming dates include Oct. 22 and 29. In both the program at Rahn Elementary and the workshops at Eagan Community Center, kids will participate in a "futuristic design competition" and compete to have their models in the window at the Lego® store, Kelley said. Young Builders and Designers is an Eagan-based program that partners with schools, organizations and non profits to create opportunities for kids to learn about the design build trades, and hosts programs for kids throughout the Twin Cities. "Young Builders and Designers continues to provide quality, fun and educational opportunities for kids to explore the design build trades," Kelley said.
