Man Became Unresponsive While In Troy Police Custody

TROY, MI — A 29-year-old man was given three doses of Narcan after he became unresponsive in police custody on suspicion of trying to break into a Troy home, police said. Police said officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Dorre Drive on Oct. 4 at 8:34 p.m. on reports of two males attempting to break into a residence. The 911 caller said the resident of that home lives alone and wasn't there. Officers found a 29-year-old man from Perry, OH, and a 17-year-old male from Troy walking away from the residence. When questioned, the Ohio man claimed to be staying with his girlfriend at the Dorre residence, police said. Officers suspected the man was holding methamphetamine in his left hand and told him they were going to detain him. The man then tried to run, but officers caught him and took him into custody, police said. Once in custody, the man became unresponsive and was given the Narcan. He was then transported to Royal Oak Beaumont where he was admitted, police said. The 17-year-old male said he lives in the mobile home park and said he met the Ohio man in the complex for the first time that night. He also told police that the Ohio man said he was waiting for his girlfriend to return home, police said. The man attempted to enter the residence but did not have a key, so he tried to use a card the open the door lock but was unsuccessful, police said. Police released the 17-year-old male. While police were investigating, the homeowner returned and conformed he lives alone and that no one else has access to his home, police said.
