Press release from the City Of Davis: October 18, 2021 8:42 am The City of Davis announced today that it is asking for community feedback on its Open Space Program, which has protected about 5,600 acres of farmland and wildlife habitat around the City and manages about 240 acres of natural areas for the public to enjoy. The survey will be open through Nov. 19.  Take the survey from the links on Facebook, Twitter, Nextdoor or the Open Space page at: https://www.cityofdavis.org/city-hall/community-development-and-sustainability/open-space-program The survey covers various aspects of the Open Space Program, including the program's acquisition strategy, its focus on habitat restoration and public access and its efforts to engage the public in the stewardship of the City's open space areas.    In 2018, the Davis City Council passed a Strategic Plan for the City's Open Space Program, which provides a clear roadmap for preserving and managing open space in and around the City of Davis through 2030. The Open Space Strategic Plan focuses on six key subject areas:  (1) Acquisitions, (2) Habitat Restoration and Enhancement, (3) Land and Resource Management, (4) Public Access and Recreation, (5) Financial and Program Accountability, and (6) Public Engagement and Partnerships.  One of the key action items in the Strategic Plan is to reach out to the community for feedback every five years. The last time the City reached out to the community on this subject was in 2016. The feedback received in 2016 influenced and shaped the Strategic Plan, which shifted the City's efforts to focus more on public access and recreation, habitat restoration, accountability and transparency, and public engagement and partnerships. "The City's Open Space Program is near and dear to Davis and a model for other cities around the country," said City Manager Mike Webb. "The program would not be possible without the continued financial and public support of the community, so naturally the City wants to check in with the community to get their thoughts on open space."
