BOLINGBROOK, IL — Three Bolingbrook High School students and two Romeoville High School students were recognized by the Valley View Board of Education as commended students by the National Merit Scholarship program.
Romeoville seniors Andrew Gura and Maya Ramos and Bolingbrook seniors Aaron Preimesberger, Armaan Suga and Connor Wasick were recognized by the board.
"Being a commended student recognizes these two students [at Romeoville] for their exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT," Romeoville High School principal Derek Kinder said.
Kinder said both Romeoville students are in several clubs and activities, including concert band and marching band, and have been in the Valley View district since first grade.
Bolingbrook High School Principal Jason Pascavage said the honorees should be commended for their time and effort as students.
More than two-thirds of the approximately 50,000 high scorers on the PSAT/NMSQT receive letters of commendations, according to the National Merit website. Commended students are named based on a selection index score that may change from year to year, and is typically below the level required to be named a semifinalist.
Commended students do not continue in the competition for scholarships, although some may become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses, National Merit said.
