SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County 2021 Advisory Redistricting Commission is seeking community input on draft maps for new supervisorial district boundaries. There will be two opportunities for initial public comment on the draft maps. People can review the maps during virtual meetings on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. Commission members have spent the past month taking public testimony from individuals and organizations on communities of interest to help draw the draft maps. People can review community input and the agenda materials at this link. "I applaud the Advisory Redistricting Commission for working tirelessly with the community to develop this first set of maps," said County of Santa Clara Board President, Mike Wasserman. "Many people throughout the county have weighed in and we hope they continue to stay engaged in the process to help ensure the new maps provide fair representation." Every 10 years, the County of Santa Clara draws new supervisorial district lines based on the updated Census data. For new maps to be drawn that reflect the community, the County needs to hear from people about where lines should be drawn to keep neighborhoods or groups with shared interests together for greater representation on the Board of Supervisors. People can draw their own maps using DistrictR at https://districtr.org/event/Santa_Clara_Count until Oct. 25 for consideration by the 2021 Advisory Redistricting Commission. After public comment at its final meeting on Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m., the commission will finalize its recommendations and submit the maps to the Board of Supervisors for review at a joint meeting on Nov. 2. The Board is expected to consider the final maps during its regular Dec. 7 meeting.
