Press release from the Savannah Police Department: Bianca Johnson June 24th, 2021 SAVANNAH, GA (June 24, 2021) – A North Carolina woman is facing charges after a June 23 two-vehicle crash on Dean Forest Road that resulted in the death of a 21-year-old Savannah man. According to a preliminary investigation by Savannah Police's Traffic Investigation Unit, a 2003 Ford Expedition driven by Laura Davis, 38, of Gandy, N.C., was traveling south on Dean Forest near Old Louisville Road around 9 p.m. when her SUV entered the northbound lanes and struck a 1998 Chevrolet 400 pickup. Jacob Wheeler, who was driving the pickup, died as a result of his injuries. Davis was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A 1-year-old who was a passenger in her vehicle was not injured. Upon release from the hospital, Davis will be booked into the Chatham County jail on charges of vehicular homicide, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. The crash remains under investigation.
