Beverly Hills Remembers Late Detective Les Zoeller

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Outside of the Beverly Hills Police Department, friends, family and community members celebrated the late detective Les Zoeller, known for his involvement with high profile cases like the Menendez brothers' murder. Zoeller worked as a detective for the Beverly Hills Police Department from 1972 to 2002, and many of his former coworkers spoke at the memorial event Saturday. Speakers included a former Beverly Hills police chief, a judge, Zoeller's widow, friends from the police department and district attorneys who have worked with Zoeller, said Beverly Hills Police Captain Max. On the event's Eventbrite, organizers asked for donations to BHPD in lieu of flowers or gifts. "It was [at the department] to honor his life when he was a detective, of course. His widow wanted his memorial service and celebration to happen here at the PD because being a police officer [and] police detective was so important to him," Subin said. Zoeller died in August 2021 after maintaining brain injuries from a stroke in July. During his time with BHPD, Zoeller handled iconic Los Angeles cases including the Menendez brothers' murder of their parents and the Billionaire Boys Club Ponzi scheme and murder case. Zoeller was also the investigator for Zsa Zsa Gabor's "slap heard around the world," the Los Angeles Times reported. "He was a great detective. He was diligent, persistent and he took his job incredibly serious, which is always a great attribute to have," Subin said.
