WEST ISILP, NY - A Long Island hospital has been acknowledged for its achievements in nursing. Good Samaritan Hospital earned the Magnet Designation for Nursing Excellence Thursday, according to a press release. The Magnet Recognition Program highlights health care organizations that demonstrate excellence in nursing philosophy and practice, adhere to national standards for improving patient care, have an active research program, and display leadership and sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity. To achieve Magnet status, health care facilities undergo an intensive interview and reviewal process; Good Samaritan is the first hospital on the South Shore of Long Island to achieve the honor. "It's been a difficult two years for our healthcare workers who throughout the pandemic, remained steadfast on the front lines, and at the same time, managed to achieve this highest accolade," said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter, who was in attendance of the hospital's recognition."It's a true testament to their commitment to healthcare at the utmost level." Carpenter also presented Good Samaritan Hospital with a citation of recognition on behalf of the Islip town board, and an official Town of Islip seal pin. In turn, Catholic Health's senior vice president of Patient Care, and Good Samaritan's Chief Nursing Officer Gara Edelstein, RN, MSN alongside Good Samaritan Hospital President Ruth E. Hennessey, presented Carpenter with a bouquet of flowers and an official Magnet Recognition pin.
