Description

We are executing a research study that aims to discover the basis of how our brain controls responses when walking interferes with other cognitive and sensory processes, at the Cognitive Neurophysiology Laboratory at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Currently we are interested in recruiting both healthy individuals, as well as individuals with Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders. Our focus is trying to better understand how neurologic diseases, such as Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders, affect how the brain operates. If you can help us, we will be recording the electrical activity of your brain with totally harmless, non-invasive EEG (electroencephalogram) electrodes while you look at visual stimuli, and we will be recording your walking activity as you step on a treadmill at a comfortable speed. Subjects must be 18 years old or above, have normal/corrected-to-normal vision, have no diagnosed neurological or neurodevelopmental disorders, no diagnosis of HIV, be capable of walking without aid, and under no influence of alcohol or illegal drugs. You will be asked to wear an EEG cap and perform simple responses (such as button responses), while presented with visual stimuli, and while walking on a treadmill. The study entails two sessions. The first session will likely take no more than 7 hours, which usually takes 5 hours, and the second session will likely take no more than 4 hours, which usually takes 3 hours. There are 2 sessions planned, but an additional third session may be scheduled as needed. For your first visit, you will be compensated $15 per hour and for the second visit (and third visit if offered) you will be compensated $20 per hour. You may also have the option to complete the experiment and all assessments in one session at the discretion of the research team. Subjects will be compensated for any University of Rochester parking costs.
