Description
Oregon Health & Science University researchers and the VA are reaching out to Veterans in the communityto hear from Veterans who are interested in helping other Veterans learn about firearm injuries sustained outside of military service. We are creating a resource for Veterans, physicians, and other stakeholders to better understand what Veterans think is important in helping Veterans who have been impacted by firearm injuries, as well as how to better serve Veterans who may own firearms. The aim of this project is to develop resources that will improve the lives of Veterans and to promote Veteran-centered health care. You can visit www.healthexperiencesusa.org to see examples of our prior work, including a module on Veterans Living with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). **We are NOT here to take your firearms or to infringe on your rights** We would like to hear from people representing diverse backgrounds who are willing to take part in a 1-2 hour interview where we will cover several topics, including: - Past experiences with firearms - How their lives have been affected by a firearm injury - Thoughts about how the VA can better serve Veteran firearm owners and those who have been impacted by firearm injuries What makes you eligible? - Are a Veteran - Personally experienced or witnessed someone you knew who experienced a firearm injury outside of active military service Participants are compensated $75 for their interview. All interviews will take place through a remote (video) service at a time that is convenient for you. Because your confidentiality is important to us, you will decide how your story is shared with others. We will only share the information that you are most comfortable sharing, requiring your explicit permission.
