I have a Top Fin cannister filter available FREE for local pick up that comes with new hoses/clamps, fresh media. PM me for location. Yes, it does work, I just bought a new internal filter when setting the tank it came with up that seems to be working quite well, and don't need this any longer. I also have a Marineland HOB with spare cartridges, an acrylic five gallon aquarium available.
