Two Chances to Dine & Enjoy BossaNova Beats with Brazilian Jazz Pianist Helio Alves! Shows at 6pm & 8pm with the delicious food of Roost! Roost Restaurant is happy to welcome the return of live music at Union Arts Center! Presented by Mz. Valentine, November Jazz Lounge will showcase the Brazilian pianist Helio Alves and his band. A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, pianist Helio Alves combines the rhythmic complexity of modern Brazilian music with the edgy energy of contemporary jazz. A resident of NYC, Alves has received high praise as an in-demand sideman with Joe Henderson, Yo-Yo Ma, Slide Hampton, Paquito D'Rivera, Airto Moreira and Flora Purim. Helio was nominated for a Grammy with the album "Forests", by the "Brazilian Trio", a group that he co leads with bassist Nilson Matta and drummer Duduka da Fonseca. He has released four albums under his own name: "Trios" (1998), "Portrait in Black & White" (2004), "It's Clear" (2009) and most recently, "Musica" featuring Antonio Sanchez, Reuben Rogers, Claudio Roditi and Romero Lubambo. Helio's latest album called "At Play", released in 2020, is a collaboration with guitarist Romero Lubambo, bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Edu Ribeiro. We have two dinner seatings: 6pm (arrive by 5:30) and 8pm (arrive by 7:30) Please arrive promptly. Seating is first come first served. We recommend purchasing tickets at least 48 hours in advance. For those who do not wish to dine, a limited number of tickets will be sold at the door payable by cash or Venmo only. A table is not guaranteed with these tickets. All patrons must show proof of vaccination for entry. Entrance to the concert is through the door on the LEFT. NOTE: Concerts take place on the second floor.
