It's here!!! Coffee shops are for community and community is for....autumnal card tournaments?? We were so excited by the interest ya'll showed when we first brought up the idea of a rummy tournament at the shop. So, our first-ever rummy tournament will be this upcoming Sunday, October 24th, from noon until about 2 pm. We'll have some good Motown music going, and weekend special fall treats! We'll be playing a bracketed-style tournament of classic rummy(Rummy 500). There is a sliding scale of $5-$20 to participate in the tournament. The event tickets are listed as donation style- this is what gives us the opportunity to offer the sliding scale ticket prices. Pay what you feel comfortable with. This is an all levels tournament, beginners to advanced. We know there are many types of rummy out there, and lots of different rules. Here are the Montage house rules. We'll also go over them the day of the event, and give everyone one quick practice round! There are only twenty slots and we've already had some reservations over Instagram so make sure and sign up quickly! 1st place prize: $25 Montage Gift Card, 12oz bag of freshly roasted Colombia coffee from Elm Coffee Roasters in Seattle, Montage logo diner mug!!A freshly baked autumn cake- made by your very own Montage crew, Montage sticker 2nd place prize: $15 Montage Gift Card, Montage logo diner mug, Montage sticker The Rules: Each match will be a maximum of 30 minutes. The player with the closest to 500 points in that time frame is the winner of that match and will move on in the tournament. There will be 5ish minute breaks between each match to stretch out and caffeinate. Each player will be dealt 7 cards to play. You are allowed to play off of your opponents melds, but only once you have played at least one meld yourself.In order to finish a round, you must be able to discard at the end of your turn, "boathouse rule."Each turn consists of the following- Drawing a card, playing any meld you may have, and discarding a card. You can draw from the deck, or the top of the discard pile. If you choose to draw a card from the discard pile that is Not the top card, you must be able to play that card in a meld on that turn. We will not be playing any jokers or wild cards.Scoring is as follows: 2-9 are each worth 5 points. All face cards are worth 10 points. When an Ace is played "high" it is worth 15 points, when it is played "low" it is worth 5 points. Any cards you are still holding when your oponent ends a round are negative points We will be playing 1v1 matches. (there will be one exception in bracket number 3, with 3 people playing!)Bracketing is as follows: Ten 1v1 matches, there will be 10 winners. Five 1v1 matches, there will be 5 winners. In this round, the two players with the highest overall score so far will be playing in the 1v1 match- One 1v1& one 3 person match, with a total of 2 winners.
