About the Artist: Don has been an experienced leather worker for over a decade. An artist since the age of 3, a doer of anything and everything in the arts, leatherwork has allowed him to hone a collection of his skill sets into one craft. Don made smaller projects throughout his time as a leather worker, then one day began the building process on a sling bag for himself to carry his everyday necessities. After a friend saw his creation, she asked if she could have something made of similar fashion. After some positive word-of-mouth and doing a few shows and some repair work for older and sentimental leather items, the orders have yet to stop piling up. His specialty and favorite styles and types of builds are backpacks, messenger bags, slings bags and even luggage. “These projects allow me to focus on a single build for about a week or so and the payoff at the end is much more worth the efforts.” Don says he enjoys teaching one or two people at his workshop how to make their own requested items. To give them a satisfaction of showing off something they handmade themselves. About the Class: Up to a total of 8 persons will learn how to hand-make their own minimalist wallets. You’ll be able to choose from a selection of different colors and textures of leathers for your build as well as your color choice of thread(s). You will have hands-on training as Don walks you through each step and will walk around to each station to ensure quality is met and questions can be asked face-to-face. There will be a video demo displayed showing a slow-motion process of the build for those who want to keep a speedy pace. The process should take no more than 1 1/2 hours. All materials, supplies, and tools will be provided for students. There are sharp tools that will be used for the build, so we recommend this class to persons ages 15+ At the end of the class, you’ll have a personal piece of leather memorabilia, handmade by you, used by you and shown off by you (unless you’re gifting it of course! :)
