Description
The NMSO presents the opening concert of the 2021-2022 season, featuring Roberto Plano, Piano.
The NMSO launches its 50th Anniversary season in a program of celebration for those who helped build the foundation of the orchestra. This is also a program of remembrance for the patrons, family, and friends who have departed in the past year of the pandemic. The NMSO welcomes the return of pianist Roberto Plano, who dazzled audiences with his brilliant performances in 2012 and 2015, performing a delightful and rare concerto by Andrea Luchesi, a close friend of Mozart, and the exquisite Eclogue of Gerald Finzi. The orchestra is featured in an elegant work by French composer Gabriel Fauré.
(65-minute program, no intermission, two performances: 3:00pm & 7:30pm)
The Tupelo Symphony was founded in 1971 by attorney Wade Lagrone who believed it was possible for a city as small as Tupelo to support an all-professional symphony orchestra. The Tupelo Symphony has drawn musicians from Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and beyond and become an important regional orchestra in Mississippi. As a reflection of its increasing regional presence, in May 2013, the Tupelo Symphony Orchestra was renamed the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.
