Description

Habari Gani?! Join us for the Black Joy Market "Kwanzaa Edition" & celebrate the spirit of UMOJA (Unity) on the first day of the Nguzo Saba UMOJA "To strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation and race." Join us and our Vending partners on the 1st day of Kwanzaa (UMOJA), Saturday, December 26th; 1pm-5pm for the final Marketplace of the season. Kwanzaa is a Holiday celebration created in 1966 by Maulana Karenga, a black nationalist and professor of Pan-African studies at California State University at Long Beach. Kwanzaa spans seven days and is meant to honor African Americans' ancestral roots. The holiday is defined by the Nguzo Saba, or the seven principles. Each day of the festival is dedicated to a specific principle, marked by lighting a new candle on the kinara, a seven-branched candelabra and the ceremonial exchange of Handmade gifts. Even though the Black Joy Market Kwanzaa edition isn't held each day of the Nguzo Saba, Black Market embraces all seven principles and continues to pay homage to our ancestors: •A Nubian Notion •The Ujamaa Mart •International Roots •The Black Rep Theatre We will provide free masks and shields upon entry (mandatory). Hand Sanitization Stations will be available upon entry and throughout the space. Vending partners will be physically distanced. Please RSVP via EventBrite or [email protected] Black Joy Market “Kwanzaa Edition” Saturday, December 26th; 1pm-5pm 2136 Washington Street Roxbury, MA 02119
